Welcome to the OdaTeam Spotlight Series! As the leading Enterprise Data Security and Management Platform for Salesforce, some of the best and brightest in the ecosystem work here at Odaseva at our offices in San Francisco, Paris, Sydney, London, Kuala Lumpur, and remotely around the world. In this Q&A series, we’ll be sharing their journeys with you. And by the way, it’s an exciting time to join the team transforming SaaS data management! You can see our open positions in here.
Today we’re featuring Emily Connor, Lead Member of Technical Staff
Let's dive in!
Q: Tell us about what you do here at Odaseva.
A: As a backend engineer on the Backup & Archiving team, I work behind the scenes to keep our customers’ enterprise data safe and easily accessible. Specifically, I build and maintain the engine behind our Archive Viewer and Data History features, tools that allow companies to search and look back through historical records without slowing down their live systems. Alongside my technical work, I also serve as our team’s Scrum Master, keeping our project sprints on track and clearing roadblocks so the team can focus on building great software.
Q: What’s the team that you work with like?
A: We’re a truly global team spread across the US East Coast, Argentina, and Paris. Even with multiple time zones between us, distance never slows us down; we prioritize clear, proactive communication across all our channels so everyone stays in sync. What stands out most about our culture is the supportive team spirit: no matter how complex the challenge or how tight the sprint, everyone is always willing to jump in, share knowledge, and help out so we hit our goals together.
Q: Why did you join Odaseva?
A: After 13 years as a public school English teacher, I was ready for a fresh challenge and decided to pivot into tech by going back to school for Computer Science. Midway through my program, I connected with Odaseva’s Head of Expert Services at a virtual job fair. The team's passion and the technical problems they were solving immediately stood out. I was looking for an environment where I could continuously learn and grow, and Odaseva felt like the perfect place for my next chapter when I officially joined in December 2021.
Q: What do you like about working at Odaseva?
A: Above all, it’s the people and the trust. I’m lucky to work alongside exceptionally smart, thoughtful, and dependable teammates every day. What really sets Odaseva apart for me, though, is how much they invest in potential. They took a chance on me twice: first by welcoming me onto the Expert Services team when I was brand new to Salesforce, and later by supporting my transition into the Engineering team. It’s rare to find a company willing to bet on career changers, and I'm deeply grateful to be in an environment where I'm constantly learning, growing, and doing work I truly enjoy.
Q: How did you come to join the Salesforce ecosystem?
A: My introduction to Salesforce actually came entirely through Odaseva! When I joined the Expert Services team, I went all-in on mastering the platform. In my first year alone, I immersed myself in learning and earned seven certifications, ranging from Administrator and Developer credentials all the way up to Data Architect and Application Architect.
Now that I’m on the Engineering team, my day-to-day focus is on backend code rather than configuring Salesforce directly, but having that deep domain knowledge is quite an asset. It gives me a clear picture of how our customers interact with Salesforce, which helps us build better, more intuitive systems for them.
Q: What’s your proudest work-related accomplishment or project?
A: The project my team is wrapping up right now is definitely at the top of my list. We’re migrating our Archive Viewer to a new data storage architecture, which unlocks powerful new features for our customers, giving them advanced search capabilities and making it far easier to re-index their archived records.
What makes me proudest, though, is the unmatched level of cross-functional teamwork behind it. The initiative spans multiple engineering teams and tech stacks, making it a true showcase of how we collaborate across the company to build something complex together. As Leslie Knope taught us - No one achieves anything alone.
Q: What else can you tell us about yourself?
A: Outside of work, I love cooking, baking, reading as many books as I can, and spending as much time as I can with friends and family. A fun fact about my past: I used to play bass in a few post-punk bands! These days, my biggest endurance test outside of coding is training for my very first marathon, which I’ll be running alongside (in actuality, probably several minutes behind) my sister this December.
