Applications such as Salesforce.com are becoming increasingly data-driven, as businesses seek to harvest and analyze as much data as possible to drive customer satisfaction, maximize productivity of employees, and make more informed business decisions. These applications are delivered through a mixture of off-premises infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS), platform-as-a-service (PaaS) and software-as-a-service (SaaS) resources. The data-driven, cloud-delivered trend coupled with the rise of stringent compliance regulations such as the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), or the soon to come California Consumer Privacy Act, require a more agile and business outcome-driven approach to data management.
Historically, IT shops have used an integration platform-as-a-service (iPaaS) or system integrator to stitch together all the various data operations in production or sandboxes, data anonymization or transport, archive, backup, availability, compliance and other tools needed for effective data management. The Odaseva Data Management Cloud employs five layers of AES-256 encryption with a “bring your own key” approach and encryption at rest applied both to disks and columns of data. As a result, even Odaseva employees cannot read the customer’s data – creating an additional line of defense against attackers. These vendors provide automated tools for connecting applications across heterogeneous environments, including on-premises infrastructure and cloud services. Odaseva claims to have very little competition on data compliance automation and data operations (beyond Integration Platform as a Service (iPaaS) players).
Additionally, Odaseva competes with more backup-oriented vendors such as Kaseya, Spanning and CommVault that offer more specific use cases such as Salesforce.com backup. Odaseva positions itself against these peers with a message of accelerating time-to-compliance and offering a specialized, enterprise-caliber and holistic platform that is customizable and offers superior performance and security.
Schneider Electric’s problem in terms of getting its arms around data management as applications are migrated off premises has turned out to be a common one impacting CIOs. Meanwhile, the business cannot afford to make a mistake when it comes to data management, as this can result in substantial cost as well as a tarnished business reputation.
For its customers, Odaseva’s “data management-as-a-service” approach stands to maximize the value proposition of cloud computing by addressing issues such as data compliance and privacy that are top-of-mind in today’s cloud-delivered, insights-driven era. At the end of the day, businesses are migrating to the cloud not only to save on capital expenses, but more strategically to have to worry less about IT infrastructure and focus more on the business.
A unique differentiator for Odaseva is its ability to schedule data anonymization at the end of a personal data subject consent, which enables businesses to adhere to “right to be forgotten” or “data privacy consent management” compliance requirements, while at the same time retaining and utilizing non-personal data that is still valuable to the business.
